1. Before you begin
Do not attempt to access Davis Edge assignments via the FA Davis website, because doing so will prevent your work from being recorded.
To access the Davis Edge assignments your instructor has selected for you, log into your Learning Management System (Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, or D2L/Brightspace) and access your instructor’s course.
2. Locate an Edge assignment
From your LMS course homepage, locate a Davis Edge assignment link.
The locations and titles of Edge assignment links will vary depending on how your instructor has designed your course. Look for "Davis Edge," or the names of topics covered by your textbook. Ask your instructor for help if you're unable to find your Edge assignments.
Though the example below is of an Edge assignment link within a Canvas course, your Edge assignments will appear similarly in all Learning Management Systems:

3. Launch an Edge assignment
When you click an Edge assignment link in your LMS course, the assignment may load automatically in a new browser tab, or you may be taken to a launch page with assignment instructions and/or a launch button.
On an Edge assignment launch page, click the button that reads "Load (assignment name) in a new window" to launch your assignment in a new tab. If your Edge assignment fails to launch, check your browser settings to make sure pop-ups are permitted.

If your institution purchases course materials on your behalf or if course materials are included as part of your tuition, your first launch of an Edge assignment link likely won't prompt you to redeem your Edge access, and will instead bring you directly to your Edge assignment.

If you are personally responsible for purchasing your own course materials, please continue to the "Redeem access" step below.
If you don't need to personally redeem your access to Edge, please continue to the "Complete an Edge assignment" step below.
4. Redeem access
When accessing Davis Edge for the first time, you may be prompted to enter an Access Code. You will only need to redeem your access once.
If you have purchased a new print copy of your assigned textbook, you'll find your Access Code on the inside cover of your book. Enter that Access Code on the left-side of the landing page shown below, then click "REDEEM CODE."

If you do not have an Access Code, or otherwise haven't purchased your textbook yet, you can click the "BUY NOW" button on the right-hand side of the landing page to purchase Instant Access to an eBook version of your textbook (which includes access to Davis Edge). If you would prefer a print copy of the textbook, you can select the "Print" tab to order a hard copy (which includes the eBook and Davis Edge).
When purchasing FA Davis course materials, make sure to use your institutional email (i.e. the email address you use to log into your LMS course). After you complete your purchase, close the checkout window and return to your LMS course to again locate an Edge assignment link.
If you encounter an issue while redeeming your access, please jump to step 9 and contact our support team for assistance.
5. Complete an Edge assignment
When your Edge access has been redeemed, launching Edge assignment links will take you directly to the Edge assignments themselves. You must launch each Edge assignment attempt via your LMS course, for your grades to record correctly.
All Edge assignments are quizzes comprised of questions derived from your textbook, that you'll complete by choosing answers then clicking the "Submit" button to proceed.
You'll only have one attempt to finish each Edge assignment.

When you finish an Edge assignment, you'll be provided a Feedback page with information about your performance. At the top of a Feedback page, you'll see how many questions you got correct, as well as a "Feedback Report" button.
For more information on your "Feedback Report" page, please consult our Student "Grading and Success Center" article.

When you scroll down in the Feedback page that's provided at an Edge assignment's completion, you'll see the correct answers for each question, rationales for each answer, page references (to revisit pages of your textbook related to an assignment's questions), and sometimes test-taking tips!

6. Check your grades
When you complete a Davis Edge assignment, your grade will post automatically to your instructor's LMS course.
Be sure to check the grading page of your LMS course to confirm your Edge assignment scores are being recorded.

If you haven't opened and/or made progress on an Edge assignment before its due date passes, you'll be scored with a 0 for that assignment. Furthermore, if you complete an Edge assignment after its due date has passed, your grade for that Edge assignment will be overridden with a zero.
Please inform your instructor if you've completed an Edge assignment after its due date. Your instructor will need to accept or reject your late work within Davis Edge itself, then update your Edge assignment grade in their LMS gradebook.

To get further insight on your Edge assignment performance, launch any Edge assignment then navigate to your Success Center page by clicking "Success Center" in the top-right.

Remember, each Edge assignment attempt needs to be launched via your LMS, for your grades to report back correctly. If you continue an assignment after navigating to your Success Center page or otherwise, your score for that attempt won't be reported to your LMS gradebook.
For more information on checking your Edge assignment performance, please consult our Student "Grading and Success Center" article.
7. Make a Practice Quiz
In addition to the Edge assignments your instructor has created, you can make yourself Practice Quizzes to further familiarize yourself with content from your textbook. Your Practice Quiz scores won't report back to your LMS gradebook.
To create a Practice Quiz, launch any Edge assignment, then navigate to your Success Center page.
Once on your Success Center page, launch your Practice Quiz Builder by clicking the "Practice Quizzes" button within your "Take Action" panel.

With the Practice Quiz Builder, create a Practice Quiz based on the topics you want it to cover, how many questions it'll contain, and whether it'll contain questions you've previously answered correctly in other Edge assignments.
Be advised your instructor can view what you've named your Practice Quizzes and how many Practice Quizzes you've completed.

For more information on making Practice Quizzes, consult our "Practice Quizzes" article.
8. Access your eBook
Whether you redeem access to Davis Edge via an Access Code or by purchasing Instant Access for a textbook, you'll have eBook access for your required textbook.
For more information on accessing your eBook, consult our "eBook Access" article after you've successfully launched an Edge assignment.
