To access the full list of assignments with start/due dates and participation rates, select the View All Modules button, or click the ASSIGNMENTS tab at the top right of the page.
Here you can preview all the module assignments that your students will complete.
Click Details next to a module to view its contents.
There are several Assignment types that can be included within each module in Medical Language Lab.
Each module begins with a Read link, which links students to that chapter in the eBook.
Next, students Watch a suite of video content that covers the core concepts of the module.
Critical Listening Exercises are based upon an audio prompt. Students will listen to a recorded conversation and then answer a set of identification questions.
Students will listen to the Audio Recording (1) to familiarize themselves with the content. Then, they click the Continue to Question button (2) to answer questions associated with the audio. After submitting answers, students will be able to review results, replay the audio, view a transcript, or try again.
Multiple-choice questions will follow, based upon the audio recording students have just listened to.
Response Exercises are also based upon an audio recording.
For most Response Exercises, students will listen to the Audio Recording (1) to familiarize themselves with the content. Then, they click the Continue to Question button (2) to answer questions associated with the audio.
For a Pronunciation Exercise (for users of Med Term in a Flash, 4e by Lisa Finnegan), students click the Record button (1) and then read the statement precisely as it is written. Then students will hit the Submit button (2) to submit their recording.
Students will be scored automatically based upon how well they pronounce the statement.
Generation
Generation Exercises are subjective and are not graded by the system. Instead, they are are graded by the instructor. There are two types of Generation Exercises: Audio and Text.
Audio Generation
These exercises ask students to record themselves saying a sentence or two using the appropriate medical terminology.
*Smartphones generally do not support MLL’s Audio Generation activities. Students should also avoid using Internet Explorer. Desktop and laptop computers with Mac OS or Windows 7,8,10 are generally supported, with Google Chrome being the recommended browser. Chromebooks are supported. iPads may be supported with the latest versions of iOS.
Text Generation
Students are asked to write a sentence or two using medical terminology.
Remember that Generation Exercises are not graded automatically, so you will not see a grade in the Gradebook for these exercises until you have evaluated the submission and assigned a grade.
Practice
Practice activities are a collection of alternative exercises that offer additional learning opportunities for students. Some are reported to the Gradebook, while others are not (such as Flash Cards, Crossword).
Review Assignments
Review Assignments (for users of Med Term in a Flash! by Lisa Finnegan, 4e only ) are a Module Test for each module, and will begin with an assessment and then generate additional review assignments for students based upon their strengths and weaknesses.
Assignments View
The Assignments view helps you to track all assignments and their scheduled start/due dates, as well as class participation.
On the main Dashboard page, the What's Next? panel provides a glimpse of current and upcoming assignments (3 at a time) showing what percentage of students has begun to work on the assigned module.
