1. Before You Begin

To access Medical Language Lab content, begin by logging into your Learning Management System (Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, or D2L/Brightspace) and accessing your instructor’s course in your LMS. Do not attempt to access assignments directly through the FA Davis or Medical Language Lab website. You need to open all coursework through your LMS for your grades to carry over.

2. Locate Assignment

From your course homepage, locate a link to Medical Language Lab content. Depending on how your course is designed, this may be found under Modules, Content, or Assignments. Ask your instructor if you are unsure.

Below you will find examples of assignments in two sample courses: one for Canvas users and one for Blackboard users. Your actual course and assignment titles may look slightly different depending on how your instructor has designed them. To find your assignment, look for "Medical Language Lab" in the title, or chapter titles like "Body Structure” or "Medical Word Elements" as examples of Medical Language Lab Assignments.

  3. Redeem Access

If this is your first time accessing your Medical Language Lab for this course, you may be prompted to enter an Access Code.

If you have purchased a print copy, the Access Code can be found on the inside cover of your book. Enter the Access Code on the left side of the landing page shown below and click REDEEM CODE.

If you do not have an access code, you may purchase Instant Access by clicking the BUY NOW button on the right side of the screen. Proceed through the checkout and remember to enter your Discount Code if you have one. Once you complete your purchase, close the checkout window and proceed to your LMS course.

After your access has been verified, you will be able to click links to Medical Language Lab content directly from your LMS course and can begin working on Medical Language Lab Assignments in the new window. You will not need to enter your Access Code again.

4. Launch Assignment

Once you click on your assignment, your Medical Language Lab Assignment will open in a new browser tab or window. An example assignment is shown below:

Click Details to reveal the Read, Watch, Critical Listening, Response, Pronounce, Practice, and Review exercises that are assigned for each chapter module. See our Exercise Types article for more information.

(Note: If you click your class/assignment link from your LMS and nothing happens, it is likely that your web browser blocked the window that was supposed to open. Check your browser settings to make sure that pop-ups are permitted.)

You can also access your eBook from the Medical Language Lab assignment page using the “EBOOK” link in the upper right corner of the page. If this is your first time accessing your eBook, see our eBook Access article for more information.

5. Complete Assignment and Return to LMS

When you finish your assignment, close out of the Medical Language Lab window and return to your LMS course to continue working on other Assignments. You must begin each new assignment directly through your LMS for your grades to record successfully.

Once you've completed work, be sure to check the LMS grade center to confirm that your scores are transferring.
